I love the Fourth of July! Who doesn't? This is one of my family’s favorite holidays. Flags waving in the wind, red, white and blue trimmed homes line the street. It feels like summer is just underway with sunny days here in the Northwest. A fun and carefree celebration that always involves barbequing, swimming, wonderful conversations, relaxing and watching spectacular fireworks.
It's a time to celebrate our country’s independence and what better way to show your patriotism than decorating with our nation's colors. Adding those bold traditional colors of red, white and blue around your home will allow the architecture and personality of your home to revel indoors and out.
For me, it all starts with a drive-up appeal
- placement of flags, banners and an eye-catching focal point like white or red slated wood rockers, flags draping from the porch, decorated lamp post or a patriotic bunting on a white picket fence. It does not have to be expensive or fancy - just patriotic and festive.
Planning an outdoor celebration/party this fourth? I have always equated Independence Day with outdoors festivities. Family, friends and neighbors all come together to eat, socialize and celebrate this special day. So...decking out your patio/cabana/outdoor living space in simple traditional fashion, brings a fun and classic flair – that just seems perfect.
Feel free to use your imagination and experiment this summer by combining classic traditional 4th décor with your own eclectic style. It's amazing and fun to see your own personality and style mingled with the typical 4th decor. Give this year’s nation birthday pizzazz – comfort – and a fun feel while still honoring a 200+ tradition!
Family-friendly and stress-free is a must! I’ve always thought the décor for Independence Day to be casual, but traditional. Since it’s a one day/weekend affair, things need to be easily pulled together. Add an American flag, toss several red and blue pillows on the sofa, and slip some blue or white slipcovers over your favorite comfy chairs. Voila! Instant patriotism.
Let’s be honest, most of us on July 4th love to spend most of our time, eating, drinking and relaxing. So… having the perfect eating and seating arrangement is a priority. Arranging the furniture in a conversation setting makes everyone feel welcome. Effortless table settings and low-key décor are made perfect with red, white and blue flowers as a festive centerpiece. Also, a casual munchies table setting arrangement is loved by both kids and adults. Bright patriotic containers or clear glass filled with red, white and blue candies, fruit or snacks. An American cake covered with blueberries and raspberries. A fast and simple way to add charm to any table. I love to surround any outdoor entertaining area with numerous candles/lanterns and theme objects mixed throughout the table and seating area. Mason jars or empty wine bottles filled with candles. A quaint and intimate atmosphere when evening falls!
There is no right or wrong way to deck out your home for this traditional holiday. I think that’s what makes it so fun! Whether you’re the type that prefers a sophisticated décor or one who wants a simple traditional 4th décor, depends largely on your own personal style and the guests. If your celebrants are mainly adults or if you’re having kids attend as well, always set up some extra activities for both group types. Keeping kids occupied with their own fun activities makes for an enjoyable day.
The 4th of July stands for freedom and patriotism and should be enjoyed by all. This is an enjoyable holiday so make it simply with an easy pull together décor that still looks traditionally charming. Add a twist of your own personality for an unforgettable summer party.
Happy 4th of July to everyone! The 4th is a special day for our nation so celebrate boldly with friends and family. Be creative and let us know how your patriotic holiday décor turns out. We always love to hear from our readers.
